I am in Bali Indonesia for discipleship training and I am staying across from the beach. I like to sit on the beach and have quiet time with Jesus. I just started my second weeks of lectures. The topic this week is about hearing the voice of God. This is an exciting topic for me and I look forward to what each day will bring. After hearing the message this morning I decided to go down to the beach and just be silent before God and see if He had anything to tell me. As I watched each wave roll on to the shore I started to think of similarities between the waves and how God works in our lives. These lessons are always exciting to me and I want to share them with others who also may benefit from them.
Everything God created speaks of Him goodness and can often teach lessons He wants us to learn. I am grateful that I am able to see some of these lessons that are hidden in every day things. Over the summer, with the help of my father, I was able to cleanup my basement. After doing the cleaning and applying a fresh coat of paint to the walls and floor I decided to move some furniture down stairs. Unfortunately, I didn’t have climate control in place and with the summer rains it become very humid in the basement. After a few weeks I was down there doing some laundry and I noticed mold had started to grow. I knew it would only continue to grow if not addressed so first I looked for a dehumidifier and started running that to clear up all the extra moisture in the air. Once I knew the humidity was under control I took on the task of cleaning everything. Luckily I got to it before the mold grew too much and started to destroy the furniture. I created a cleaning mixture, got a washcloth, put some rubber gloves on, and started scrubbing everything down with the cleaning solution. As you can imagine, this was no small task so after cleaning about half of the furniture I called it a night. A day or two later I came back to finish the job. It was during this second cleaning session that I got the lesson from nature.
One morning I witnessed something beautiful; God painted the sky with His glory. These moments only last for a few minutes, by the time I took a couple pictures, the color had faded. It got me thinking. God is always moving and His glory is shining wherever He is. If we aren’t positioned to see it or feel it, we could very easily miss an opportunity to see God move. There is no better position to see God than in His presence and at His feet. We all must surrender ourselves to Him and bow down to worship Him in all His glory. Start your day seeking God and spending time in His presence and I am sure you will see Him move. God bless you!
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:16-18 NKJV
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV
Over the summer I had the opportunity to go on a weekend camping trip with my family. We try to go camping at least once a year. It is a good activity to get away from our busy lives, technology, and spend time in nature to relax, soak in the beauty of God’s creation, and focus on bonding with family and God. There are so many lessons we can learn simply by looking at nature. One of those lessons came to me while on this summer camping trip.
Let me first share a little story of God’s goodness. When we go camping we usually bring a canoe and stay in a tent. Because of this we like to have a camping site next to the lake where we can launch the canoe directly into the water. We also like to have a grassy patch in which to pitch the tent to serve as a softer sleeping surface. When we arrived at the camp we noticed that it was busier that we had hoped; all the lake side sites were taken. Bummer! But we don’t complain, instead we decided to find an inland site that is somewhat private. We found a site and had started to resolve ourselves to that fact we would need to carry the canoe to the lake in order to use it. (more…)
